About Me

My name is Lisa DeFelice. I am a Registered Nurse and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. I became certified by the HypnoBirthing® Institute to be a HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educator.

My story

I had my first three children the traditional way with no pain medication. I did not want to have that needle in my back! When I was pregnant with my fourth child I became very afraid of labor. I was dreading the whole experience and was really beginning to get anxious about it. I thought to myself "This is not the way is supposed to be!" When I was in nursing school, I overheard a nurse telling someone that she was going to try hypnosis for childbirth. I remembered this at this point in time and did some research. I took a class and was convinced that I could do this. Instead of dreading labor, I was actually looking forward to it. The results were amazing! I hardly felt my early contractions. The birth was peaceful and beautiful. I used HypnoBirthing® for my next three babies after that, each one more incredible than the one before. I had much quicker recoveries with my HypnoBirthing® labors and less bleeding. I also had an episiotomy with the first three and had the last four without it. It is my hope that more and more mothers will learn about HypnoBirthing®, and have the glorious birth they deserve!

What is HypnoBirthing®?

HypnoBirthing® is as much of a philosophy as it is a technique. The method teaches you that, in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor. You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony when your body is sufficiently relaxed and you trust your body's natural instincts.

When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance or asleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or movie. HypnoBirthing® teaches you and your birth companion the art and joy of experiencing birth in a calm and more comfortable manner. You will feel sensations like pressure but not the excruciating pain that you hear about or may have experienced in previous labors. Instead of "pushing" you will breath your baby into the world. HypnoBirthing® teaches you to release all prior programming about birth and how to trust and work with your body.

The HypnoBirthing® Advantage
  • Eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome before, during, and after birthing
  • Reduces or removes the need for chemical anesthesia, episiotomy, and other interventions
  • Lessens fatigue during labor, leaving the mother fresh, awake, and energized as she brings her baby into the world
  • Shortens the first stage of labor by several hours
  • Promotes bonding between mother, baby, and birthing companion prenatally, perinatal, and postnatal
  • Greatly reduces postnatal discomfort and "baby blues"
  • Quicker postnatal recovery
  • Calmer babies
  • Mothers don't risk hyperventilating from shallow breathing
  • Birthing is a safe, beautiful, peaceful experience
Common Myths of Hypnosis

Myth: You will be submissive to another person's will

While in hypnosis, you are awake and completely in control. You are fully aware of your surroundings and what is happening.

Myth: You will do something humiliating

During hypnosis, you are a consenting participant and will only perform acts that are only to your benefit. You will not do anything that you would not normally be inclined to do.

Myth: Financial or family secrets will be revealed

Since you are aware throughout the session, you control what will be revealed. Hypnosis is not a "truth serum".

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The practitioner is simply a guide to go inside yourself and achieve what it is you desire. The practitioner is never in control of your mind-you are. Hypnosis is all about releasing limiting emotions, visualizing the outcome you wish to achieve, and learning the techniques to become completely and totally relaxed to reach these goals.
